Traditional note-taking assumes a cognitive budget many learners don't have: sustained attention, working memory for delayed transcription, and organizational discipline to file and find pages later. For students with ADHD, dyslexia or executive function differences, the notebook isn't a memory aid — it's a second job that competes with the first one, listening. Timestamped notes restructure the job: capture shrinks to a tap, organization happens automatically by time, and retrieval never depends on remembering where you put anything.
Where the friction actually lives #
- Split attention: writing while listening means doing both badly — a one-tap note keeps attention on the lecture
- Working memory overload: 'hold this thought until the pause' is exactly the operation ADHD brains struggle with

None of this is a clinical intervention, and formal accommodations belong with qualified professionals.
